People love things about Hollywood. People love to see the inside of what’s going on.

I don’t crave Hollywood.

I don’t even think of myself as particularly good looking, and not at all a typical kind of Hollywood leading man sort of actor.

In Mexico, audiences want to see a big discussion around a film – what we expect from Hollywood films worldwide is more of an entertaining show. ‘Y Tu Mama Tambien’ was a road movie and comedy, but it had a very strong political connotation that sparked a discussion in Mexico that is still going on.

People still say to me, ‘What, you still live in Mexico?’ I don’t have to go to the United States simply to find work, and I don’t have to stop what I’m doing. I mean, which Hollywood film beats ‘The Motorcycle Diaries?’

The problem with Hollywood is that nobody works. They have meals. They go to Pilates. But it’s not enough. So they do drugs. If everybody had a pile of rocks in their backyard and spent every day moving them from one side of the yard to the other, it would be a much happier place.

My dream is not Hollywood, but to perform my act in English to 30 people in a Soho comedy club, to show New Yorkers what they look like from the French point of view.

A generation before, it had been sagebrush and coyotes; a generation later, it was a burgeoning movie town. But for that brief idyllic time in 1910, Hollywood looked like the perfect place for a successful writer to settle down, build his dream house, and maybe do some gardening.

We should realise that Hollywood is not obliged to write roles for Asian actors.

A gun in a film is so culturally specific to America. It looks odd in world cinema unless it’s ironic. I wonder if there are more balls in English films than guns, more nipples in French films. Guns in America’s story are a constant, a plot device, like coffee cups in European films. Guns are Hollywood

I think I’m drawn to more villain-type characters, because it’s so cool to get to say all the things you want to say. In Hollywood, you get to this position where you have to bite your tongue so much. You take all your experiences of not being able to say what you really want to say, and channel that through your character.

Hollywood panders to the 18-to-34 crowd. That demographic doesn’t care about race and the package it comes in. They care about the hottest chick. They just like hot chicks.

In Hollywood, you play a mom and instantly, you’ve got osteoporosis.

The black community in Hollywood is very small and close-knit. Everyone has a common goal: to make a two-hour movie in 30 days.

You get so afraid of failure and so afraid of losing and so afraid of not being the best that it’s not a natural drive – it’s born out of fear of failure. Which helps in Hollywood.

Hollywood needs to recognize all shades of African American beauty.

Hollywood, that whole industry, is a lot like a really small town. You bump into the same people all the time. I think Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon can be played with anyone and everyone in Hollywood.
