Suicide is something that hangs around forever, dropping load after load of guilt on the living.

I have been waiting for death all my life. I do not mean that I actively wish to die, just that I do not really want to be alive.

People commit thousands of small suicides every day that go unnoticed

I think about death a lot, like I think we all do. I don’t think of suicide as an option, but as fun. It’s an interesting idea that you can control how you go. It’s this thing that’s looming, and you can control it.

I am only about half alive a large part of my strength is consumed in sitting up or walking. However so many things do interest me, & interest me intensely, in science, history, philosophy, & literature; that I have never actually desired to die, or entertained any suicidal designs, as might be expected of one with so little kinship to the ordinary features of life.

I am perfectly confident that I could never adequately convey to any other human being the precise reasons why I continue to refrain from suicide–the reasons, that is, why I still find existence enough of a compensation to atone for its dominantly burthensome quality.

No matter how much a woman loved a man, it would still give her a glow to see him commit suicide for her.
