Ziaur Rahman
Ziaur Rahman (1936–1981) was a Bangladeshi military officer and politician, serving as the seventh President of Bangladesh. Born in Bogura, he joined the Pakistan Army and played a key role in the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. After independence, he rose through the ranks and became Chief of Army Staff. Ziaur Rahman seized power in a bloodless coup in 1975 and later assumed the presidency. His rule witnessed economic reforms but was marred by political unrest. He founded the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in 1978. Ziaur Rahman was assassinated in 1981, leaving a lasting impact on Bangladesh’s political landscape.
