Details About Author:

Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) was a Dutch painter, widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in Western art despite his struggles during his lifetime. Born in the Netherlands, he initially worked as a missionary and a teacher before turning to art in his late 20s. Self-taught, Van Gogh developed a distinctive style marked by expressive brushwork and vibrant color. He is best known for works like Starry Night, Sunflowers, and The Bedroom, which reflect his emotional intensity. Van Gogh struggled with mental illness, including depression and psychosis, which influenced his work. His most famous period was spent in France, where he formed a close, yet tumultuous, relationship with fellow artist Paul Gauguin. Van Gogh’s life was marked by poverty, isolation, and periods of mental instability. He cut off part of his own ear during a crisis, and his emotional struggles led to his eventual death by suicide at the age of 37. Although he sold only one painting during his lifetime, Van Gogh’s work later became a cornerstone of modern art, admired for its raw emotional power and innovative techniques.
