Playing Arnie was fun because everything I did was spontaneous.

I’m happy to race against anyone.

I’ve made very few mistakes through the year so i’m not worried, nico is trying everything possible in his head to come up with some kind of way of dealing with things. that’s how he deals with it.

Lots of other drivers like cycling, but I’m not so keen. I have some really cool bikes, but I’m just not in love with it like Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso.

When you get out of the car after the feeling that you have after leading the race, and the car fails, it’s pretty hard to say positive things all the time.

I have so much music to release, but I’m meticulous. I’m like, “You’ve got to redo that part, redo that part.” And people are like, “Just forget that and go ahead with it.” But it’s all about perfection, about trying to make it as good as you can.

I’m constantly watching my weight for my job, and I’ve trained so hard this year to be ready for this season-more rigorously than ever – but people who tune in to Formula One have no comprehension of what we have to do to be fit. It’s so physical. This year, the car is way faster than when you came to the race. And the physicality has gone up quite a lot, at least 20 to 30 percent. People don’t see that. They don’t see us as athletes. They just see us driving.

Even though we had the championship won, I just really wanted to keep my head down and see if we could learn and extract more from this beautiful car that’s a piece of art, i feel so happy with today, man.

I don’t believe I have a playboy life.

I think my style is definitely urban chic. I love mixing street style with the high-end luxury brands, like Gucci, for example. Quite fun.

I feel good, the race was strong for me in austria last year and my quallifying is better this year so I plan to take that there and try to rectify the loss I had last year.

Everyone loves a winner. That’s just how the world is. And Ayrton Senna was one of the greatest winners this sport has ever had.

When I look at pictures from when I was younger, I think, “Holy crap, what the hell was I wearing?” I’ve made it a real mission to fully understand what fashion is all about. I love going to these shows because I love seeing creativity. So when I get to meet these fashion designers, I’m kind of like, “Where did you get the idea to make this? What were you thinking?” Some of that stuff is so crazy and loud

I love my ink. They all have a meaning. I’m very strong in my faith, so I wanted to have some religious images. I’ve got Pieta, a Michelangelo sculpture of Mary holding Jesus after he came off the cross, on my shoulder. A sacred heart on my arm. Musical notes because I love music. The compass on my chest is there because church is my compass.

I have so much energy. I train, I travel, I’m learning about music and fashion, reading a lot. I don’t want to miss anything. I want to experience everything.”

In the fashion industry, I think there’s a lot of work that can be done with all these brands. I want us to kind of, create a ripple effect.

I’ve tried lots with my hair. Obviously I used to have it as a number one all over, super easy, but then I started to grow it out. I had an afro and then I got rid of the sides.

When people ask me that, I say I don’t want to be remembered. It means I’m no longer around.

I welcome it, if they want to continue to do it, it just empowers me.

I still feel that as a sport going to places with human rights issues, such as this one, I feel that the sport is duty bound to raise awareness and try to leave a positive impact, and I feel like it needs to do more.

It’s not about being perfect, it’s about being on the journey and learning from the lessons.

The horrifying things that are happening to animals in order for you to keep eating meat is inhuman.

Kids, people, there are so many jobs in this sport of which anybody, no matter your ethnicity or background, can make it and fit in.

It takes me forever to read a book. I have such a small attention span.

Generally, I hate training – just like most people, I guess. I try to make it fun and varied.

The Hamilton name will live on way beyond me now, which I’m very happy to be a part of.

It’s never a bad thing to ask for help if you need it or to tell somebody how you feel, showing your vulnerable side doesn’t make you weak, instead, I like to think of it as a chance to become stronger.

It was my 44th win [in Monaco]; 44 is my race number; and it’s been my number since I was 8. And it’s my family’s number as well. So it was a special day, for sure.

It was a good weekend for the team, valtteri drove an incredible race today so he deserved it.

Now each race is different every time because it’s a different journey to get to it – the difficulties you faced getting the car into that position. I manage myself. I chose my team myself. So there’s a huge satisfaction for me.

Whether it’s with my engineers in the team, my home life, or my friends, I don’t like things to get complicated – and one good example would be the steering wheel in my Mercedes Formula 1 car.

It is open for anyone to have freedom of speech, and I guess we can all play a role in trying to make a difference in the world. Particularly if your leader is not helping in that area.

When I first started in Formula 1, I tried to ignore the fact I was the first Black guy ever to race in the sport. But, as I’ve got older, I’ve really started to appreciate the implications.

When I was really young, I busted my nose when I was racing. The first thing my dad asked me was: ‘Are you OK?’ I said, ‘Can you fix the car for tomorrow?’ And I won the race the next day.

As long as you win Monaco, that’s the one. In my ten years of Formula One, I’ve only won here once. This is my second time.Every year, it feels like this is your Achilles heel. You almost have it and then you don’t. It’s such a hard race to win.

I have spent a lot of time in Italy throughout my career — especially when I was karting, because it’s kind of the world centre of that sport — and I love it.

I love to be on the move, and I am fortunate that I have friends all over the world.

Equalising performance between teams runs completely counter to the idea of F1 and would be very unfair for us.

Concentration and mental toughness are the margins of victory.

I don’t drive by the seat of my pants and happen to win races. I work very hard to interpret the data and drive a certain way. My engineers have confidence in me, and more often than not, when I tell them what I need or what I am feeling with the car, it’s right.

I love all of the Marvel comics movies.

I listen to music before every race. Generally, there will be a song I’ll get into over the weekend, and I play it all weekend, particularly when I’m getting ready for a race.

We have 21 races in the year and Monaco is the one that you want to win.

Michael [Schumacher] was a phenomenal driver but for me, Ayrton Senna was the greatest ever. If I could get one world championship that would be great; if I could win three, the same number as Ayrton did, that would be a dream. But I want to be the best driver there has ever been.

There’s so much more power, so you’re short-shifting all the way down into fifth, sixth, seventh before you can get the full throttle. But great fun otherwise,

I don’t feel I need to come and drive the race of Lewis Hamilton’s life. I think I’ve driven pretty well this year and I plan to drive Lewis Hamilton’s best this weekend.

I have no fear of death, so I don’t think about it. I love the adrenalin kick that danger brings. Others get their kicks bungee jumping from tall buildings. I’m very, very competitive. I want to be the best at everything I do. It’s not driving – it’s everything – it might be playing my guitar, I try to be the best at it as I possibly can.

Personally I feel for the fans because I remember the period of time when Michael Schumacher was winning. I remember waking up in the morning to watch the start of the race and then going to sleep, and then waking up when it ended because I already knew what would happen. I am pretty sure a lot of people were doing that today.

I like taking risks. I like trying new things, whether it be style or restaurants or whatever.

F1 is about the best drivers competing against each other for the best teams producing the best cars they can.

I train to quite an intense level because Formula 1 is so physical – the G-forces, the demands on your body. Your heart rate is 150, 160 through the whole race. On qualifying lap, your heart rate can be up to 180, 190, under tough conditions.

Sometimes, I arrive at races more energetic and clear-minded than ever, and then I have a terrible race. And the opposite is also true.

There are times when you are growing through experiences, but sometimes there is a point of diminishing returns in terms of growth.

I don’t like to read fiction. I like to learn something when I’m reading.

During the race, we lose 2-4 kilos of liquids.

That’s the great thing about today, having smartphones to stay in touch and share experiences. Knowing that whilst there may be thousands of miles between you, it’s almost like they’re there. That’s the coolest thing, and that’s how I stay in touch with the people that are important to me.

When you’re driving, the helmet squashes your hair, so you don’t really have a hairstyle. When you get out, you’re sweating and your hair is a mess.

There is always space for improvement, and I think that applies to everything in life.

My dad wanted me to have a better life than he had ever had. He wanted us to succeed so badly. And I never wanted to let him down.

I hate losing. It doesn’t matter if it’s racing or playing Ping-Pong – I hate it.

I always thought, if I can affect one kid and help him or her fulfill their dreams, that would be kinda neat, so I want to ensure that I’m remembered in a good way.

 It is actually quite exciting when you’re flying headfirst into a barrier—the initial part, the initial part is actually quite fun, especially when you hit the gravel trap and you get some air, and then you see it coming and you think ‘erk—it’s gonna hurt!

Normally, racing drivers come from a long line of previous successful sports people.

I love it in the States. TheI love it in the States. The roads are big, the food is big. If it was possible to be in L.A. and still live my racing life, I would move now.

You just need to be accepted for who you are and be proud of who you are and that is what I’m trying to do. 

I’m an extremist so I’m either hated or loved. I think it’s down to when I first got to Formula One not always knowing what I was saying, saying things that mean one thing but people were taking the other way and then people don’t forget.

Tupac is my favorite artist, and he had mad style.

I don’t know if you’ve ever been skiing, but if you go to the slope you’ll see all these kids fearlessly zooming by. It’s only when we get older that fear creeps in. But for me, it just never has. And when it comes to racing, it’s always about who is willing to go further, who is willing to take that extra step. I’m willing to take any amount of pain to win. I’m hungry like you.

I don’t fear failure, I fear not living up to my potential. I take that passion with me and never stop learning…

As a driver, you’ve always got to believe in your heart that you’ve got what it takes to win it. You’ve always got to believe in yourself. You’ve always got to arrive on the day and believe it can happen. You’ve always got to believe in the positives.

My Bridgestone tire blows out on a day that Ferrari wins? Smells too convienent to me..

Winning is definitely the ultimate goal, the lessons learned when I don’t win only strengthen me.

I think grooming is definitely undervalued by men. We all expect women to be fully groomed, which they do. But I also think it’s just as important for a man to look fresh and clean.

I’m very, very competitive.

Nothing can really prepare you for when you get in the Formula One car. Knowing that you’re driving a multimillion-dollar car, and if you crash it it’s going to cost a lot of money, and they might not give you another chance, is scary.

I feel like people are expecting me to fail; therefore, I expect myself to win.

You have to have the mindset that you are going to be the best.

Everyone has complicated lives, but the more you can simplify it and make it work for you, the better it is going to be.

One time I didn’t leave my hotel room for four days, I was so stuck in my head. But now, with maturity and age, I’ve realized that winning isn’t everything. It’s very much about the journey, particularly in my sport. There are so many people on my team, and I’ve got to be conscious of them. So while winning is definitely the ultimate goal, the lessons learned when I don’t win only strengthen me.

I take as much time as I need. I want to be fresh and smelling good.

A couple of my mechanics have become vegan because I’ve done it. One of my barbers, too.

I certainly lead a different life from many people. I have a great life that I am thankful for, and I like travelling.

I’m willing to take any amount of pain to win.

When we win, my family, team. and fans feel the joy as well. That’s why I say we win and lose together, and I definitely couldn’t do it without them.

I want to be the best driver there has ever been.

I always want to be the best at what I do. As a kid, whatever I was doing, if I was playing football or whatever I was applying my energy to at the time, I always wanted to do it to the best of my abilities. And I was always interested in finding out how I could do it better.

If you don’t have the balls to brake late, that’s your problem.

I race to win. If I’m on the bike or in a car, it will always be the same.

I feel like the most incredible warrior when I’m in my car.

A shark? No, I like to think I’m more like a panther. A shark attacks from behind without you knowing. With a panther, you know it’s coming but he still gets you.

When I think about greatness I just know Ayrton Senna. He was great.

I enjoy trying to develop a car and Mercedes are one of the biggest car manufacturers in the world.

Sure every driver has his value and you want to be respected but again money is not something that drives me.

Formula One was a very dangerous sport. It still is dangerous. But the danger factor is also the exciting part.

I was born to race and to win.

I was trying to control myself because I wanted to just park the car and jump out and do cartwheels. The next dream is to win the world championship.

I grew up going to the store, seeing the products [of L’Oréal ], seeing the commercials and the ambassadors. I never in a million years thought I’d be associated with them.

I want to crush everyone. I want to outsmart everyone.

My brother was told that he wouldn’t walk, that he wouldn’t be able to play drums, that he wouldn’t be able to race a car – and he’s done all those things. He’s defied the odds, defied disability. I look at him and I’m so inspired, by his mentality and by how incredible the body and the mind are. There’s really nothing you can’t do. My brother has proved that.

And I promise you I will be giving everything and more to win for my team, for my family, and for my fans.

I can’t go to the cinema. I go to the bathroom in a petrol station and people come in there for autographs. It’s tough, but I knew that was going to be the case.

I know my boundaries. I know the limits to the car.

My saying is; We win and lose together. I think that really does apply to both my fans, family and the team.

It’s important for everyone to stand up for what they believe in.

I don’t aspire to be like other drivers – I aspire to be unique in my own way.

I’ve accomplished more than I ever dreamed. But I’m hungry for more.

There have been some ups and downs. I’ve not always had it my own way. That’s the way racing is supposed to be.

Ayrton Senna was my favorite driver who I wanted to be like.

The way I drive, the way I handle a car, is an expression of my inner feelings.

You can knock me down, but I get up twice as strong.
