I really want to make a big mark in athletics, to be a legend and be a good example to kids.

I always treat myself as my biggest competitor.

If I miss one training, then I will not sleep well.

Mental fitness plays a big role during competition.

Marathon is life. And life is where you progress.

I want to run with a relaxed mind.

When I was young I would run for fun and I didn’t know back then that this would be my career.

I’m strict about my work goals and training.

I am just going to try to run my personal best. If it comes as a world record, I would appreciate it. But I would treat it as a personal best.

To run alone is not sport. To run with others is sport.

In the future, I still need to perform well and I still need to win marathons. But I feel more than anything that I need to make history.

Accept change…I know it is not really comfortable to adopt change but change in life of a human being or life of any profession is really important. But change cannot be forced.

It’s still my legs that are doing the running, not the shoe.

You can break any barrier.

The best time to plant a tree was 25 years ago. The second-best time to plant a tree is today.

I don’t know where the limits are, but I would like to go there.

Become comfortable with being uncomfortable. Accept change.

Athletics is not so much about the legs. It’s about the heart and mind.

I’m sending a message to every individual in this world that when you work hard, when you actually concentrate, when you set your priorities high, when you actually set your goals, and put them in your heart and in your mind and in your mind, you will accomplish, without any question.

What motivates me year in, year out, is the love for the sport and the legacy I want to leave for the present and next generation.

It means a lot to Kenya, running under two hours, together we can make a beautiful world.

My mind was clear… From the first kilometer to the last kilometer, I knew I had it.

Marathon is no longer an individual event, it’s a team event.

Keeping calm allows you to think more clearly and being patient allows you to be prepared on how best to run a beautiful race.

I don’t have regrets. In any sport, the feeling of regret is a sign of indiscipline.

There is a formula: 100% of me is nothing compared to 1% of the whole team.

I started running because my neighbor, Patrick Sang, was an athlete and I wanted to be just like him.

When I have a lot of pain, I try to confuse my mind to forget about the pain and think about the distance.

To win is not important. To be successful is not even important. How to plan and prepare is crucial.

Personally, I don’t believe in limits.

The world is actually full of challenges and we need to challenge ourselves. I took a challenge to run that fast. It consumes a lot of energy especially mentally. But I took myself and accepted to be challenged and I challenged the time.

Passion is a choice. You need to choose to be great. It’s not a chance, it’s a choice.

I would like to tell every living soul in the world that anyone can do whatever they want, all they need is to believe and trust in themselves.

Every day is a challenge, you’re always faced with a new one. And when I have achieved something, I look forward to the next goal. That’s the way to go.

I have kept a training diary to record my plans and my feelings and emotions for a long time.

Mentality is where the success is.

In life, the idea is to be happy.

In any profession, you should think positively. That’s the driver of your mind. If your mind is really thinking positive then you are on the right track. ‘Pleasure in what you’re doing puts perfection in your work.

I’m confident to say that if you want to grow in a profession, consistency is the key.

You cannot train alone and expect to run a fast time.

In life, you need to have a goal. Without a goal, you won’t achieve anything.

In the offseason I allow my body to recover, my mind to recover.

All our minds, all our thoughts are parallel. But I respect everybody’s thoughts.

When you plan very well and prepare very well, then success can come on the way. Then winning can come on your way.

I like to be with my family, to read books, and know what is going on in the world…

The marathon is hard; the second day, you don’t go up or down stairs.

If you don’t rule your mind, your mind will rule you.

If athletes can go near their fans, many people would develop a love for running.

If you’re taking shortcuts, you can’t be free.

I love the sport, and that’s what drives me.

I want to go down in history as the best marathon runner, and for future generations I want to be a role model as a runner as well as a person.

This is happiness. To run before the world is awake in the most beautiful environment here in Kenya’.

If you are undisciplined, you are a slave to your moods and your passions.

To me, running is life. I run to live longer and enjoy a healthier life.

These roads are best ran together.

My mind is always free. My mind is flexible.

When I miss one workout session, it’s like missing a discussion with your classmates, where six people are discussing a subject.

If you train with fast athletes, it keeps you pushing.

I believe in calm, simple, low-profile life. You live simple, you train hard, and live an honest life. Then you are free.

If selected I will be there. If the Tokyo Olympics is at the front of my mind, and I trust and believe that when the time comes, I will be on the starting line.

I am running to make history, to show that no human is limited.

I always tell people that this is a really simple deal: Work hard.

I want to stay for a long time and leave a mark so the young generation can aspire to be at the top like me.

Don’t make excuses. When you have decided to do something, do it. No excuses. Then you are self-disciplined.

Thinking positively and confidently changed my life.

The most important factors which actually aided me in breaking the two-hour mark. One was the teamwork. Secondly are the people around me. Good training.

I think the medals are the same, I will be among the competitors, I don’t complain.

I saw people celebrating all over the country, Kenya… will be united and in future Kenya will be a running nation.

The law of nature cannot allow all human beings to think together. In breaking the two-hour barrier, I want to open minds to think that no human is limited.

Nothing is stronger than a peaceful mind.

Sometimes all it takes is a little adjustment to face the obstacles in life.

If you’re taking shortcuts, you can’t be free.

I will teach the kids how to think in a positive way.

When you smile and you’re happy, you can trigger the mind to not feel your legs.
